BELMONT, N.C. — A Gastonia man is on the loose after police alleged he stabbed his girlfriend at her home after a night out last weekend.

The incident was reported by an off-duty Belmont officer when the victim showed up at the hospital after being stabbed. The victim told officers she and her friend went out earlier that night before arriving home around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 12. Shortly afterward, the victim said her boyfriend, 22-year-old Elijah Raheem Lurry, entered the house and accused her of ignoring his calls while she was gone.

The victims said Lurry assaulted both of them and stabbed his girlfriend during the fight. Lurry allegedly forced the two into a room and held them there for several hours before leaving. The victims were able to escape and got to the hospital around 8:30 a.m.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.

WCNC Charlotte is choosing to show the mugshot of the suspect because he is on the loose
