BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Police Department says two people are facing charges after a man was shot in his motel room on Dec. 30, 2023.
Officers said they were called to the Heritage Inn along Wilkinson Boulevard around 5 a.m. that day, arriving within two minutes of getting the alert. They found a man with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He had non-life-threatening wounds and was later released.
During the initial investigation, police said they learned the shooting stemmed from an argument between the victim and a woman. The person who reportedly shot the victim was the woman's boyfriend, and police noted the victim was staying in a motel room at the time with his own wife and child.
On Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, Belmont Police said 29-year-old Clarence Albert Gagliardi and 28-year-old Alisha Michelle Crawford were apprehended and charged in the case. Gagliardi faces three counts of attempted 1st-degree murder, one count of felony discharging a firearm into occupied property, a misdemeanor count of damage to property, and a misdemeanor charge for driving while license revoked. Crawford, meanwhile, is charged with three felony accounts of accessory after the fact.
