Man accused of armed robbery at Belmont pharmacy

Cody Alexander Gardner, 29, reportedly showed off a gun as he demanded money from the cash register.

BELMONT, N.C. — A man is in custody Wednesday after police say he robbed a Belmont pharmacy at gunpoint.

The Belmont Police Department said it happened around 1 p.m. at the College Park Pharmacy on Park Street. Officers said the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Cody Alexander Gardner, entered and displayed a gun before demanding money from the register. He then ran away.

The department said Gardner was tracked down by a K9 unit to a home along Dunn Street, which was in the jurisdiction of Gaston County. Police then asked for assistance from the Gaston County Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Gardner was eventually taken into custody without incident. He is charged with armed robbery.

While Gardner is in custody, police ask anyone with further info to call (704) 825-3692.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
