CMPD investigating shooting on I-85 in north Charlotte

One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after being shot while riding in a ride-sharing vehicle north Charlotte Thursday, Medic said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was seriously injured when the vehicle they were riding in was shot into on Interstate 85 in north Charlotte Thursday afternoon, police said. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a reported shooting on southbound I-85 between Statesville Road and I-77 around 2:30 p.m. CMPD said a ride-sharing vehicle was shot into, injuring a passenger. No one else in the vehicle was injured during the incident, according to police. 

The victim was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries from the Bojangles on Statesville Avenue, according to Medic.

Multiple CMPD cruisers were at the restaurant and crime scene tape was up outside the building near an entrance. Crime scene detectives were collecting evidence and looking for witnesses in the parking lot. 

CMPD has not announced any arrests or released any suspect information at this time. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. All calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous.
