MORGANTON, N.C. — A wife and husband are dead after investigators said the husband reportedly killed her at their Morganton home before dying by suicide.
The Burke County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a home along Stephens Road in Morganton around noon Wednesday, near North Green Street. They were originally called for a disturbance with multiple gunshots in the area. Deputies arrived to find Rita Hoglen dead in her home.
Her husband, Gerald Hoglen, was then deemed a suspect. However, he was found later along Chester Avenue near the Sunnyside community, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The sheriff's office said the case remains under investigation.
