It happened Wednesday evening according to investigators.

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — The Catawba County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a man in a rural area Wednesday night.

The sheriff's office said an investigation is still ongoing and has not filed charges as they consult with the District Attorney's Office. As of publication, no suspects or persons of interest have been named.

The sheriff's office also confirmed a minor was involved in the shooting, so certain information cannot be released.

WCNC Charlotte has requested further information from both the sheriff's office and the District Attorney's office.
