CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Central Piedmont Community College evacuated some buildings across multiple campuses because of a reported bomb threat Wednesday, a college spokesperson confirmed to WCNC Charlotte.
As a precaution, Central Piedmont evacuated all buildings at the Harper, Harris and Cato campuses and the Parr Center at the Central campus. Other buildings at Central campus were not evacuated, according to Casey Habich, the executive director of communications for the school.
Later in the afternoon, Habich confirmed all four campuses were cleared. The Harris campus was cleared first, then the Cato campus. Harper and Central were cleared after that. Normal activities at Central Piedmont's campuses are now able to resume.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating the reported bomb threat, which was received via social media, according to Habich.
The Harper campus is located in southwest Charlotte. The Harris campus is located in west Charlotte. The Cato campus is located in northeast Charlotte. The Parr Center and Central campus are located just outside Uptown Charlotte.
The police investigation caused a delay on the Charlotte Area Transit System's Gold Line streetcar, which runs along Elizabeth Avenue adjacent to the main campus.
