Man shot, killed near Charlotte park identified

Medic confirmed it happened around 8 p.m. Friday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A shooting claimed a man's life in a northeast Charlotte neighborhood Friday night and is now being investigated as a homicide.

Medic confirmed it responded to an area along Parkwood Avenue near Progress Park around 8 p.m. The agency pronounced one victim deceased.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed later in the evening it had launched a homicide investigation. 

Police identified the person who was killed as 38-year-old Bryan Johnson.

The investigation continues. CMPD asks anyone with further information to call (704) 432-TIPS to speak with a detective directly. Anonymous tips can also be shared with Crime Stoppers by calling (704) 334-1600 or by submitting them online.
