CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man pleaded guilty in connection with a shooting that injured five people during a New Year's Eve celebration in Uptown Charlotte last January, records show.
Daevion Markeith Crawford was charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon and going armed to the terror of the people after investigators said he opened fire into a crowd at Romare Bearden Park. Court records show that Crawford pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and received 20-36 months in jail. He was credited with 350 days served.
Crawford was being held under a $1.5 million bond in connection with the shooting.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
WCNC Charlotte is choosing to show the mugshot of the suspect due to the high-profile nature of the incident.
