CMPD discusses recent robbery investigations

During a press conference on Friday, authorities gave details about a recent wave of armed robberies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department held a news conference Friday afternoon to discuss recent armed robbery investigations and ask for public assistance in locating a suspect that is believed to be responsible for a recent rash of armed robberies.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, officers responded to an armed robbery at a Walgreens on the 7100 block of East W.T. Harris Blvd.

After the suspect fled the scene in a car, CMPD believes that the same individual committed four additional robberies after robbing Walgreens, using several different cars. At this point, CMPD deployed extra resources and put a BOLO out for the suspect, as stated in the news conference.

CMPD was able to locate and arrest the armed robbery suspect, who they identified as Jamaris Smith, early Thursday. The suspect has been charged with 6 counts of armed robbery and 2 counts of kidnapping.

CMPD also discussed a second armed robbery case that occurred at the same Walgreens on East W.T. Harris Blvd on Thursday. The suspect robbed the Walgreen's pharmacy and fled on foot.

CMPD asked the public to share any information about the most recent armed robbery at the same Walgreens by visiting Crime Stoppers or calling 704-334-1600. There is a cash reward being offered for any tips that help to identify or catch the suspect.
