CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person has died after a shooting in Charlotte early Tuesday morning. A homicide investigation is underway.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the Circle K on South Tryon Street near Interstate 485 around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and found 22-year-old Apree Dontell Leak. Leak had been taken to that location by someone else, then got the attention of a Medic truck so paramedics could assess his injuries.
Medic took Leak to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound; he later died at the hospital.
CMPD said detectives don't believe that is the main location for the shooting, though police have not provided further information about what other locations may have been involved.
CMPD said in a police report that the victim did not know the suspect.
"It feels like every day you wake up and hear someone is getting shot," a passerby told WCNC Charlotte later Tuesday.
It was the second shooting Medic had responded to in a span of six hours in Charlotte.
Around 11:45 p.m. on Monday, Medic confirmed it responded to McAllister Drive near Plumstead Road in north Charlotte, just down the road from Beatties Ford Road. One person was taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries.
