4 hurt in 3 overnight shootings, Medic says

The shootings happened within about three hours of each other. It's unclear if they're related.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four people were hurt in three separate shootings in Charlotte late Wednesday and early Thursday, Medic said.

The first shooting happened on Taylor Avenue, near the intersection of Beatties Ford and Lasalle Street in north Charlotte, around 11:30 p.m. Medic confirmed one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The next shooting happened around midnight in the area of Statesville Road in north Charlotte. When officers arrived, they learned the shooting occurred on Griers Grove Road. According to a police report obtained by WCNC Charlotte, three teens were hurt in the shooting. A 19-year-old, 13-year-old and 17-year-old were taken to the hospital.

About an hour later, multiple agencies responded to a shooting on Cutwater Circle, which is near Statesville Road Baptist Church, not far from where the second shooting happened. One person was taken to the Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center, Medic said. Their condition is not known at this time.

All three incidents happened within a few miles of each other, but it's unclear if the shootings are related. WCNC Charlotte has asked Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police for more details. CMPD hasn't announced any arrests or released any suspect information for any of the shootings.

In one of the shootings, neighbors claim "celebratory gunfire" was to blame and said "this happens every year."

“I don’t go out on the patio during the Fourth of July weekend." Tony Martin told WCNC Charlotte on Thursday. "Some people shot in the woods over there and the bullet ricocheted off the trees and hit my deck over there. They just do it around the Fourth of July, it’s not a normal thing."
