4 killed, 3 hurt in Charlotte shootings over the weekend

Among the shooting victims over the weekend are two teenagers who were killed and a toddler who is recovering in the hospital.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A toddler is recovering from a gunshot wound and two teenagers are dead after a violent weekend in Charlotte.

Families are devastated and grieving as police say four different shootings injured three people and killed four others.

One of the shootings happened at a short-term rental in southeast Charlotte off Monroe Road. A next-door neighbor to the duplex said they had never had issues with guests until this past weekend when a shooting broke out.

A day after the crime scene cleared, the side of the rental and its front door were riddled with bullet holes, and caution tape lined the fence to the backyard.

"It was just, you know, kind of shocking," the anonymous neighbor told WCNC Charlotte.

Around 1:20 AM on Sunday, multiple gunshots were fired at the rental with people inside.

"We didn't know until the cops came over to check on us, which was insane," the neighbor added. "But we had started having issues with [the rental guests] Friday night. There was a bunch of cars everywhere. They weren't very considerate of people."

According to the police report, at least 12 people were at the house during the shooting, including a three-year-old child. CMPD said after the shooting, three people were taken to the hospital, where 19-year-old Chauncory Farmer died.

No suspects have been identified.

About 20 minutes after the short-term rental shooting, another shooting in west Charlotte sent a two-year-old girl to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The news shocked neighbors at Evoke Living, where multiple units were hit with gunfire on Sunday. One resident said it's not uncommon for adults to get shot in the area, but hearing that a toddler was hurt was devastating.

Police have not released information on possible suspects but said the toddler is now stable.

Before the two shootings on Sunday, a shooting inside a home in east Charlotte on Friday killed a 16-year-old boy. CMPD responded to a home on Burnt Umber Drive, where 16-year-old Jaiden Harris was found shot and killed.

Police announced on Sunday that they charged a 12-year-old child with involuntary manslaughter for the shooting. The child was questioned by police and released to their parents.

Also on Friday, CMPD reported that two people were found shot to death in a southwest Charlotte hotel in an apparent murder-suicide.
