CHERRYVILLE, N.C. -- Gaston County Police were involved in a standoff for hours overnight with a barricaded suspect in Cherryville.

Around 6:20 Thursday evening, police were notified that David William Sisk, 32, was at home on Hallman Street, just outside the Cherryville city limits. The caller also told authorities they believed Sisk had several outstanding warrants.

After checking records, Gaston County Police confirmed Sisk had five outstanding warrants for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault on a female, communicating threats, first-degree burglary and interfering with emergency communications.

When officers arrived on scene, Sisk barricaded himself inside the home, police say, and began issuing numerous threats to officers, stating he was armed and would fire upon anyone who tried to arrest him.

A SWAT team was called in, and the suspect was taken into custody just before 2 a.m. NBC Charlotte's crew on the scene reports tear gas was used to draw Sisk from the home.
