Rowan County man charged for sexually abusing child within own family

The suspect is now in jail and placed under a $250,000 secured bond.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Editor's Note: This story discusses the alleged sexual abuse of a child. While no acts are described in detail, reader discretion is advised.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office says a man has been accused of sexually abusing a child deputies said was a member of his own family.

41-year-old Edwin Raul Aguilera-Quiroz of Rockwell was arrested Tuesday according to a news release shared Wednesday. Deputies said an investigation was launched after a report was filed with the county Department of Social Services (DSS), which then shared the allegations with the sheriff's office. Detectives said a joint investigation with DSS led to them getting enough evidence to charge Aguilera-Quiroz.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
