2 arrested for attacking Chiptole employee, police say

Jamel Bernard Williams, 36, and Kayla Nicole Pyle, 34, turned themselves in this week, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

INDIAN LAND, S.C. — Two people accused of attacking a Chipotle employee have turned themselves in to be formally charged.

Jamel Bernard Williams, 36, and Kayla Nicole Pyle, 34, are facing charges of assault and battery for an attack on a Chipotle employee in Indian Land on Dec. 10, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

The female victim told authorities that an argument over an order arose between her and Pyle before she decided to end her shift early and go home. The victim said as she was leaving through one exit, Williams then entered the restaurant from another exit, pushed her on the floor, and began hitting her, pulling her hair, and jerking her around. Pyle soon joined Williams, hitting the victim.

A male juvenile was with Pyle and Williams, but he has not been identified and will not be charged, according to deputies.

The victim said she was in pain but declined treatment at the scene, according to deputies.  She sought treatment on her own after the incident.  The extent of her injuries is unknown.

“I don’t know what was said between Pyle and the victim, but the victim was leaving for home and was chased down from behind by Williams and attacked in the dining room of the restaurant,” Sheriff Barry Faile said in December after the incident.  “The assault was completely unjustified.  I hope the victim has recovered from her injuries."

Williams turned himself in on Jan. 8. Pyle turned herself in on Jan. 11.

Williams faces a $8,500 bond for his charges, which he posted. Pyle faces a $5,000 bond.
