CMPD: 18 arrested, $3.5 million worth of drugs seized after year-long investigation

The DEA said the drugs that were trafficked into Charlotte were connected to the Mexican cartel of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced Thursday that more than a dozen people were arrested in connection with a Mexican cartel for trafficking millions of dollars' worth of drugs into Charlotte. 

Detectives with the Drug Enforcement Administration and CMPD seized $3.5 million worth of drugs in the bust, including 40 pounds of heroin, 20 pounds of meth and 15 pounds of cocaine. CMPD said that 17 of the 18 people arrested were from the Charlotte area with one suspect being from California. 

A handgun and $8,000 in cash were also recovered during the investigation. 

The DEA said the drugs that were trafficked into Charlotte were connected to the Mexican cartel of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion. CMPD said the investigation was a partnership with several federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
