A man was taken in custody in connection with the stabbing death of a woman in uptown Thursday morning, police said.
James William Curry Jr., 55, was charged with murder in the death of Diane McLelland, who would have turned 62-years-old on Thursday.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police tweeted the victim was found dead in the 800 block of North College Street near I-77.
An officer at the scene of the stabbing said the woman was believed to be homeless. The stabbing was the 50th homicide of 2019 in Charlotte.
All lanes of College Street between 11th Street and 12th Street on the north side of uptown were closed during the investigation.
