CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 17-year-old is dead after a shooting in a northwest Charlotte community early Thursday morning, police said.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a report that shots were fired along Pitts Drive, in a neighborhood just off of Beatties Ford Road, where they found a person who had been shot.
The victim, who has since been identified as 17-year-old Melakah Corbette, died at the scene, according to police.
No arrests have been made at this time, though police say they do not believe this was a random act of violence.
There is no threat to the community at this time, police said. WCNC Charlotte has reached out to CMPD for more information.
