CMPD investigating shooting of 8-year-old girl

Cash rewards are being offered for information.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting of an 8-year-old girl that occurred last month.

CMPD investigators held a joint news conference with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on the status of the investigation on Wednesday, May 3, to provide updates on the investigation.

Officers were called to a home on Burbank Drive near LaSalle Street shortly after 1 a.m. for an assault with a deadly weapon call. At the time of the shooting, there were 16 people inside the home including eight children between the ages of one and 10. Upon arrival, officers discovered the home had been shot into from the outside. 

The 8-year-old child, identified by family as a girl name Olivia, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. After the shooting, officials said she was in serious but stable condition.

CMPD is requesting the public's assistance in identifying suspects in an assault with a deadly weapon investigation....

The family of Olivia said she was hit in the head by bullet fragments. CMPD noted she was still in the hospital as of May 3.

The ATF and Charlotte CrimeStoppers are offering rewards for information in the case. The ATF is offering $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest, and Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 704-334-1600.
