CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted, and robbed at gunpoint.
On June 3 around 2:40 a.m., the woman, a security guard, was completing her rounds in a business under construction on New Bern Street in South End Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
When she entered the business lobby, police say she was confronted by an unknown suspect. The suspect displayed a firearm and forced her into a room. Police say he sexually assaulted her and left the room after.
Police say the man left on foot in an unknown direction and in the process took her tablet, pepper spray and flashlight.
The woman had encountered this suspect twice last week while working when she found him sleeping in the construction site and asked him to leave.
She contacted police and was treated at a local hospital.
Police describe the suspect as a black male with a thin build, at approximately 5’5” to 5’8”. He wears a small messy afro and a full beard. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants with gray shorts over top the sweatpants.
Police described the suspect as a predator, someone without morals. They say the woman, though a security guard, was unarmed.
Officials say they believe the suspect might be homeless.
CMPD released surveillance video showing the suspect leaving the scene.
