CMPD SWAT unit arrests 2 in connection with west Charlotte murder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police's SWAT unit surrounded a home in northwest Charlotte Thursday afternoon in an attempt to serve a warrant on two suspects in a murder case.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police's SWAT unit surrounded a home in northwest Charlotte Thursday afternoon in an attempt to serve a warrant on two suspects in a murder case. 

According to CMPD, Lakisha Renee Brooks, 26, and Raymond Bernard Sherrill, 43, have been charged with murder of Benny Edward Bennett Jr. Brooks was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. 

 

Detectives located Brooks and Sherrill at a home in the 200 block of Bradford Drive, but both suspect refused to make contact with authorities, said CMPD. Negotiators and CMPD's SWAT unit were then called to the residence. After multiple attempts by negotiators to make contact with the suspects failed, members of the SWAT unit and K-9 unit forced their way into the home, arresting Brooks and Sherrill without further incident.
