COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Columbia Police K-9 is recovering but OK after being bit by a snake while tracking a suspect on Sunday morning.
A police spokesperson said 5-year-old K-9 Bo was tracking a suspect from a carjacking that occurred around 3:30 and 4 a.m. when he was bit. Bo was taken to the veterinarian's office and is OK, but on light duty for the next week, officials said.
Bo, a Dutch Shepherd, is one of 11 K-9 officers the department has. He's been a member of the department and partnered with Master Officer Christopher Gunter for three months. He was a working dog with the U.S. Air Force before that.
Police said the initial carjacking happened in the 2000 block of Greene Street, and the same suspects were involved in another incident along Canterbury Road before they bailed from the vehicle near Gregg Street. Authorities caught one suspect but are still looking for the other.
