DALLAS, N.C. — Gunfire that erupted in the Dallas community Saturday afternoon was part of what police said was an exchange between people in two different cars.
The Dallas Police Department said it happened along Eden Glen Drive, off Dallas Cherryville Highway, just after 3 p.m. Officers arrived and found a Gaston County Sheriff's Deputy had two people involved at gunpoint, taking both in for questioning.
Investigators said the two people they were questioning were inside of one of the two vehicles involved. They had reportedly shot at two people in the other car. Both of the other men initially ran away from the scene, likely with guns and bags.
A suspect from the other car was eventually found along Dallas High Shoals Highway by Gaston County Police and taken into custody. On Tuesday, Dallas Police confirmed Roland Alvin Whitworth Jr. had been arrested and charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into occupied property, and damage to real property.
Whitworth is in Gaston County Jail with a bond set at $250,000.
Police said while it was initially believed there was another suspect at large, police have since determined no other suspects were involved.
Nobody was hurt in the shooting. Both Dallas Police and Gaston County Police continue to investigate.
Anyone with information is asked to call Gaston County Police Communications at (704) 922-3116.
