'I ask you to please come forward' | Rock Hill family continues to seek closure over open cold case

Investigators said at least 20 people were outside the at time of the 2013 shooting. Rock Hill police continue to investigate, but no arrests have been made.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — There's a renewed call for help in solving a 10-year-old cold case in Rock Hill.

Daniel Ervin, 29, was murdered in front of a home on Pebble Street back in October of 2013.

On Monday, police announced they have established a new task force to try and find the person responsible. 

“I truly miss my son,” Alice Walker said.

For the family, there's still suffering and pain as they wait for answers.

“It’s kind of hard for me to talk about," Bianca Ervin, his daughter, said.  "I’m 18 now, he died was I was 8 years old."

Ervin was a father of five, getting ready to celebrate another birthday until he was shot and killed. Investigators said at least 20 people were outside the at time of the shooting. Rock Hill police continue to investigate, but no arrests have been made.  

“Some may not realize that the information that they have is relevant to the crime,” Taylor Tucker with the Rock Hill Police Department said.

Now, there's a new push to close the case. The homicide investigation has been assigned to a task force with several different agencies. They're resubmitting critical evidence as there's been forensic advancement to help officers catch criminals.

Police also asked for the public's help.

“It is our experience that the offender will often follow the investigation and have an interest in both rumor and gossip in the community," Tucker said. 

Ervin is one of 19 open cold cases in Rock Hill since 1965. 

Walker said someone must know who killed her son, and is begging for closure and peace. 

“I ask you to please come forward, it was my family October 13, 2013, and it could be yours at any given time, you never know," Tucker said. "So I just pray that God touches the hearts."

Police said they also did a canvas in the neighborhood where the shooting took place, on Monday to speak with neighbors.
