GREAT FALLS, S.C. — The Chester County Sheriff's Office says a person has died at a Great Falls park Saturday evening.
Deputies first reported the death on Twitter around 10 p.m., saying the person was reported at the David Lex Minors Park, located off Chester Avenue and Bennett Road. As of publication, the sheriff's office did not specify if the victim was an adult or a minor.
Initially, the sheriff's office said a person was shot and killed. However, a later tweet said new information received indicated gunfire was not involved in the person's death.
Crime scene agents with the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) were called to help process the scene.
WCNC Charlotte has been told by the sheriff's office no additional information is immediately available as the investigation is still active.
Editor's note: A previous version of this article reported initial details from the sheriff's office that indicated the victim died of an apparent gunshot. However, the office later updated its information to indicate that was not the case.
