1 dead, others injured after shooting in southwest Charlotte neighborhood, police say

Two people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, with one of them later dying at the hospital, police said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead and others were injured following a shooting near an apartment complex in southwest Charlotte overnight Friday, officials said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call along Apex Landing Way, just off West Tyvola Road where two people were found with gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, with one of those victims later dying at the hospital, police said. 

The deceased victim in this case has been identified as 18-year-old Jah’Zir Elijah Jackson. His next of kin have been notified.

Medic confirmed a third victim was taken to the hospital, though the cause of the hospitalization was not made public. 

WCNC Charlotte saw a total of five damaged cars at the scene, but police did not confirm whether or not the vehicle was related to the shooting.

Police have charged 18-year-old Al-Terrik Bogar in connection to the case. 

He is charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. 

Officers are not currently looking for additional suspects in this case, however, the investigation is active and ongoing.
