CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte.
The shooting happened on Country House Street east of Steele Creek Road on Wednesday around 10 p.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police say a woman was found dead from gunshot injuries in a car at the scene. The victim's name has not been released at this time.
Police arrested Leon Esquita, 45, in connection to the deadly shooting. Esquita is charged with murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Esquita had a first appearance hearing in Mecklenburg County court on Thursday. He faces a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 4.
