YORK, S.C. — The York Police Department has arrested a second 15-year-old for the deadly shooting of a man in early May.
The teen was arrested on Thursday, one week after the first suspect was charged. Police say the teens live in York County.
Both teens are charged with one count of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder. They remain in the custody of the SC Department of Juvenile Justice.
The suspects are accused of killing 21-year-old Jai'Shaun Young of Gastonia, North Carolina in what the York Police Department has described as the city's first homicide investigation since 2022. Young was found shot to death inside a home along Galilean Road on May 4, 2024.
"I feel like I’ve had so many panic attacks," Shauna Burger, Young's mother, told WCNC Charlotte after the shooting. "It’s like I can't breathe. That was my biggest fear to bury one of my kids.”
Burger began a GoFundMe to help pay for the cost of burying her son. Anyone who wishes to donate can do so online.
It's unclear if the two teens will be tried as adults. The 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office will make that decision.
