CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman's death in south Charlotte on Sunday is now being investigated as a homicide, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
CMPD officers found the victim dead along Werburgh Street around 1:30 p.m. on July 14. Investigators didn't say where the her body was found, but multiple CMPD vehicles were spotted at a townhome community in the area of Tyvola Road and Park Road.
CMPD said the case was ruled a homicide after consulting with the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office. She was identified Wednesday as 32-year-old Whitney Elizabeth Hurd. Police said her family reported her missing on July 11, and her body was discovered at the home on Werburgh Street three days later.
The cause of Hurd's death has not been shared.
No suspect information has been released and CMPD hasn't announced any arrests in connection with the case. However, officers are looking for Hurd's car.
Hurd drove a white 2014 BMW X3, an SUV. It had North Carolina tag KJP-9368 on it. It's not known exactly where it is now, but a surveillance photo shared by the department captured the SUV in York County along the exit ramp to Carowinds from I-77 northbound. That photo was captured on July 4, 2024, at 2:41 p.m.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Hurd's car or who can provide other information to help solve the case can call (704) 432-TIPS to talk with a homicide detective directly. Anonymous tips can be shared online with Crime Stoppers or by calling (704) 334-1600.
