CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide in the east part of the city.
Around 4 p.m., the department shared a social media post saying the scene unfolded along Tipperary Place, just off Shamrock Drive. However, other initial details were not immediately available.
WCNC Charlotte learned from officers on the scene that CMPD responded around 3 p.m. for a reported assault with a deadly weapon. They arrived to find a man with apparent gunshot wounds. Medic declared the man dead at the scene.
During a brief news update around 5:40 p.m., Maj. Jackie Bryley with CMPD said officers had a subject in custody and being questioned. Police were also talking with witnesses as well.
Bryley said it was too soon to determine if the shooting was a domestically-tied incident as the investigation was still in its earliest stages. However, she noted that CMPD was not looking for any additional suspects.
