CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Someone broke into Shamrock Gardens Elementary School, prompting a law enforcement investigation and keeping students and staff out of the school Tuesday morning, district officials said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed law enforcement was conducting an investigation on the campus of Shamrock Gardens Elementary School due to a break-in that happened on campus.
The district said the school was not placed on lockdown and that students and staff were not allowed to enter the school. An all-clear has been given and students and staff are returning to the building.
The following message was sent to Shamrock Gardens Elementary parents:
"Good morning Shamrock Gardens Elementary School Families, this is Principal Trina Potter reaching out to bring you an update on the situation at our school. Our start time at the school was a little delayed this morning due a large law enforcement presence on our campus following a break-in and a search of the school. All students and staff are safe.
Bus riders were held at Garinger during the police activity. Car rider families, we thank you for your patience while the police worked to resolve this situation.
As always, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Thank you for your continued support of Shamrock Gardens Elementary."
No word on whether anyone is in custody at this time. WCNC Charlotte has reached out to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for more information.
