Suspect charged, another sought after man found shot to death at east Charlotte townhome community

One person was pronounced dead after a shooting at a townhome complex just off Central Avenue, Medic confirmed.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A suspect is facing charges after a deadly shooting in east Charlotte on Thursday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

CMPD responded to a reported shooting at a townhome complex on Eastcrest Drive around 7 a.m. Thursday. That's just off Central Avenue near Briar Creek Drive. When officers arrived, they found 25-year-old Khyre' Jamaal Grier dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives quickly identified Fabio Herminio Funes, 49, as a suspect in the case. Funes was arrested Thursday and questioned by investigators. Following the interview, Funes was charged with murder.

However, Funes is not the only suspect tied to this investigation. Later in the day Friday, CMPD shared a photo of another person officers are trying to identify.

Anyone with information is asked to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. CMPD notes callers will remain anonymous and may get a cash reward of up to $5,000. Anyone who submits a tip won't have to go to court and the suspect won't be given your identity.

One of Khyre's loved ones shared that he loved his children and "was filled with laughs and joy." He also loved cars and "would talk about cars all day if you let him."
