GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — An inmate who escaped from the Gaston Correctional Center Thursday morning has been captured in Bessemer City, officials say.
Law enforcement agencies in the area were looking for 51-year-old Shannon Thomas Galloway after the 51-year-old, who is currently serving a two-year sentence for larceny, hopped a fence Thursday morning, prison officials said.
After Galloway escaped, he allegedly stole a car from a Walmart in Gastonia. Law officials located the missing car in Bessemer City and Galloway fled in the car.
Following a police chase, Galloway eventually surrendered at East Virginia Avenue and North 8th Street in Bessemer City shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Galloway was scheduled for release on May 8, 2024, but will now face additional charges.
Galloway is originally from the Kings Mountain area.
