CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NBC Charlotte has exclusive video of a dramatic arrest caught on camera.
Police said a robbery suspect ran from police, resisted arrest, and assaulted Charlotte Mecklenburg Police officers. NBC Charlotte crews were there around 11 p.m. on Monday as the suspect was arrested at Remount Road and S. Tryon. St.
There were no serious injuries; however, the video shows one female officer with apparent cuts on her face.
The video also showed police pinning the suspect down to the ground in the middle of the intersection. Just moments earlier, an NBC Charlotte photographer said she witnessed the suspect tackle the female officer.
Tony Douglas, 32, is accused of robbing someone of their cell phone near I-77. Officers were flagged down, and police said the suspect ran from them. They later found him, and that’s when police said the struggle began.
Douglas is now facing a long list of charges including multiple counts of assault on a government official, resisting arrest, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Jail records showed he was just arrested earlier this month on charges of resisting arrest and misuse of 911. Douglas remains in the Mecklenburg County jail on a $16,000 bond.
