MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The Mooresville Police Department said a man is facing a murder charge after he allegedly provided a lethal dose of fentanyl to someone else months ago.
The department said the victim, 25-year-old William Carney, died of an overdose on September 28, 2022. Police said their investigation led them to another 25-year-old man as the provider of the drug: Tristan Randy Charles Strickland, of Huntersville.
On Jan. 3, 2024, a grand jury in Iredell County returned a true bill of indictment on Strickland for one count of second-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to possess a Schedule I controlled substance with intent to sell. He was arrested in Charlotte by the U.S. Marshals Service on Wednesday and jailed in Iredell County under a $750,000 secured bond.
Mooresville police thanked the Marshals and the Huntersville Police Department for their assistance throughout the investigation.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
