GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- The case of a wrestling coach accused of child sex crimes continued Monday in Gaston County.
The state called a former wrestler of Gary "Scott" Goins to testify about the alleged culture of fear and sexual abuse.
One of the focal points of the state honed in on was a camping trip the wrestling team took back in 1994. Former wrestler Dale Shehan claimed from the stand he was harassed, blind folded, walked out into the woods and forced to suck a hot dog under the supervision of coach Goins.
"Coach Goins pulled me aside and asked me if I was alright. He said it was just a...wanted to see how dedicated we were to the team pretty much. How much dedication we had," said Shehan.
The defense tried to point toward Shehan's use of marijuana during high school. Later - another wrestler was called to the stand and backed up Shehan's story saying coach Goins actually put the hot dogs in the boys' mouth.
Court resumes Tuesday morning. Shehan also testified about two other incidents during his time on the wrestling team. He said at one point coach Goins and other wrestler led him and a few other wrestlers to a train track then stripped them and forced them to walk back into town naked.
Shehan also accused Goins of getting upper classmates to put IcyHot cream on his testicles during a wrestling lock in at East Gaston High School.
Court resumes Tuesday morning in Gaston County.
