CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It was a scary situation at a local high school after police say a robbery involving a gun took place on the campus of Garinger High School in northeast Charlotte.
"That is so dangerous, though," said Lakashia Black, who has a son at the school. "I'm really freaked out about that."
Wednesday morning, police say a 16-year-old and 17-year-old were on the campus of Garinger High School when someone came up to them with a gun.
"Very shocked," said Beverly Batts. "Didn't feel comfortable at all."
Police say the teens were robbed at gunpoint of cash they were carrying and then the suspect left. Black says she never heard anything about it from the school.
"And I've been here twice today and I still haven't heard anything about it," Black said. "So that's really dangerous for all the kids."
But Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says they sent a message from Assistant Principal Sharon Bracey, saying in part, "There was an incident on campus today involving a weapon on campus. Once alerted, CMPD and school officials immediately acted to ensure student and staff safety and the incident was quickly resolved."
Batts says she got the message and when she did, she was relieved that her 15-year-old daughter was okay.
"Really didn't like it and I'm afraid for her," Batts said. "I'm about to go and get her a can of pepper spray."
With the news of the Townville Elementary School shooting in South Carolina from weeks ago still fresh in her mind, Batts wants her daughter to stay vigilant when she's on school grounds.
"Have your guard up," Batts said. "And be aware of your surroundings."
Police described the suspect as unknown and haven't made an arrest at this point.
