CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Days before Christmas, on the eve of the busiest holiday travel day, NBC Charlotte has learned gas stations have become a hot target for criminals in the Charlotte area.
Three 7/11s were targeted within 24 hours all across the city.
Monday at 4 a.m., there was an attempted robbery 7/11 on Old Concord Road. Newspapers were just delivered, and in the surveillance video, you can see the clerk locks the door immediately. Then someone comes running to the door; the suspect pulls out a gun but runs off empty handed.
On Eastway Drive at 5 p.m. Monday, an 18-year-old woman was pushed to the ground and her purse stolen from the front seat of her car. Four people have been arrested in that case.
Then, the location on Freedom Drive was hit at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday morning. In that case, two masked suspects with pistols robbed the business.
Management at all locations didn't want to comment.
Police haven't said if the cases are or aren't connected.
