GASTONIA, N.C. — The Gastonia Police Department K9 Unit recently tracked an endangered child and caught an armed car thief, the department said.
K9 “Bo the Bloodhound" successfully tracked down an endangered child after a woman tried to stab one of her 19-year-old children and took her 7-year-old son from the scene.
The woman was in a "drug-induced psychosis," and was armed with a knife, police say.
She disappeared into the woods, causing officers to call on Bo for help.
Bo was given an item belonging to the boy and shown the last place they were seen. Bo and K9 Sgt. David Rowland tracked the scent for seven miles through the woods and to the back of a vacant house.
The 15-month-old bloodhound found them in a shed at the back of the property.
The boy was unharmed.
Just a few days earlier, K9 Officer Seth Canipe and K9 “Bando”, a German Shepard, tracked a suspect that jumped from a stolen vehicle and ran.
Bando was able to find the suspect, who had a gun and narcotics, police said.
The police department says the successful tracks highlight the importance of the K9 Unit.
