'It's the same Chevy Equinox' | 911 calls reveal more on robbery that led to police sergeant's death

Police reports reveal similarities in two other robberies at the Sheetz location where Sgt. Dale Nix was killed.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is learning new details about a robbery at a Sheetz gas station that led to the murder of a well-known police sergeant.

Police reports and 911 calls reveal this wasn't the first time the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road in Colfax had been robbed.

A robbery at the Sheetz gas station on Dec. 30 turned into the shooting death of Greensboro Police Sergeant Philip Dale Nix

Police reports reveal that there were two other robberies at the same gas station — one on Dec. 12 and one on Dec. 20.

While Greensboro police haven't connected the incidents, one 911 caller said they believe they could be related.

"It's the same Chevy Equinox people that keep stealing beer. He came in. He stole beer. I was trying to get a picture like we are supposed to," said the 911 caller.

The Guilford County District Attorney's office said three people pulled their black Chevy Equinox into a handicapped spot at the Sheetz in Colfax, late Saturday afternoon.

Investigators said 18-year-old Jamere Foster and 28-year-old James Morrison went inside the gas station, stealing ten cases of beer.

18-year-old Z’quriah Blackwell waited in the car.

Sgt. Nix was off-duty at the time, sitting at a table outside when he saw the robbery take place.

Police said Nix tried to intervene when one of the suspects fired multiple shots, killing him.

The robbery that happened at the same Sheetz just ten days prior showed similarities to the robbery on Dec. 30 - three cases of beer were stolen in the robbery on Dec. 20.

Again, police haven't said if the crimes are connected or committed by the same people, but the 911 caller seems to think they've seen these people before.

The caller claimed, "They've been robbing us for the longest time now."

GPD said they are still investigating, and looking to see if these robberies are connected.

Funeral arrangements have not been made yet for Sergeant Nix.
