A Greenville County deputy was injured Tuesday after he was dragged by a car while trying to serve an active warrant, authorities said.

The deputy, who sustained minor injuries, had gone to Oak Ridge Apartments off Pelham Road at about 3:35 p.m. to take a suspect into custody, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Jonathan Smith.

He and three other deputies were in uniform when Smith said they made contact with 26-year-old Jimmy Reese Thompson Jr. in the parking lot with a white male.

Thompson and the man then jumped into an older model silver Honda Accord and fled, Smith said.

He said a deputy broke the driver's side window to try to stop them but got "hung up" in the window and was dragged for a short distance.

The deputy was able to free himself and was checked out by medical staff, according to Smith.

The Sheriff's Office was attempting to identify the driver Tuesday night. Smith said the two men are considered dangerous.

Anyone with information about Thompson's whereabouts or the identity of the driver is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
