CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The driver accused of killing a woman in a drunk-driving crash was convicted of second-degree murder Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses said Gregory Wheeling was speeding when he hit and killed 28-year-old Kelli Putnam on South Boulevard in January 2016.
A jury ruled that Gregory Wheeling was drunk when he hit and killed 28-year-old Kelli Putnam in January 2016.
Wheeling faces up to 16 years in prison.

After attending the Panthers home playoff game in January 2016, Putnam and her boyfriend were walking to Mac’s Speed Shop on South Boulevard. CMPD said Putnam stepped into the road, where she was struck and killed by a car driven by Wheeling.
Putnam was a former waitress of Mac's Speed Shop.
