CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is in custody after a SWAT standoff in northwest Charlotte Friday afternoon.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called to the area of Oakdale Road and Dale Avenue just off Brookshire Boulevard and north of Interstate 85 around noon Friday. More than a dozen CMPD units responded to the scene and blocked traffic to keep the public away from the area during the situation.
Neighbors said it's a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, and Friday's standoff was a scary situation. They still have many questions about exactly what happened that led to SWAT coming out there.
Officers at the scene didn't release any details about the nature of the call or the suspect's identity. Family members of the suspect said he surrendered peacefully and no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
"I'm really happy," the suspect's sister said. "I was very nervous considering everything that's going on with the law and stuff. Ultimately, it would've caused hurt on us if he wouldn't have [surrendered], so I'm glad that he did."
