Detectives were able to determine that the incidents were related and that it all started when shots were fired into a vehicle in Hickory. The victim then drove to an apartment complex in Long View and called for help.

The victim, an underage male, was flown to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

On Friday, the department identified 19-year-old Zamarion Emanuel Calloway of Hickory as the suspect. He is now charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging a weapon into occupied property. He was not granted a bond.

Hickory Police noted the vehicle that the occupants were in was a 2010 Nissan Altima that had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

The juvenile who was shot remains in stable condition as of Friday.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
