CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide investigation near Albemarle Road Elementary School and Albemarle Road Middle School.
Around 6:30 a.m., CMPD officers were dispatched to investigate a suspicious man in the 7800 block of Riding Trail Road, which is near the elementary and the middle school.
Officers found 20-year-old Malik Boyd, who had been injured, according to officials. Boyd succumbed to his injuries where he was found.
"This is not a random act of violence," CMPD Major Jackie Bryley said. "Possibly our assailant and victim knew each other."
Information about the extent of the victim's injuries was not immediately available publicly.
CMPD said the incident is not related to the schools. The victim is not a student or staff member at either school, officials cautioned.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
