Man found dead in southwest Charlotte, CMPD investigating case as homicide

A witness told WCNC Charlotte she was walking in the area when her made a shocking discovery.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A person was found dead in southwest Charlotte on Monday, police said. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a report of a body being found along Peachtree Drive, just off Nations Ford Road near South Tryon Street, around 11:30 a.m. A witness told WCNC Charlotte she was walking a dog in the area when the dog found the victim's body in the woods. 

The woman, who works at a petsitting company in the area, said she's been asking for extra patrols in the area for months. 

Multiple CMPD officers were spotted in the area a few minutes later. Detectives haven't given any further information at this time. It's unclear if any arrests have been made in the case. CMPD said it's investigating the case as a homicide. The victim's name hasn't been released.
