CMPD investigating pair of deadly stabbings across Charlotte

Two people were killed in separate stabbings across Charlotte within a matter of hours. No arrests have been made in either case at this time.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after two people died in separate stabbings across Charotte within a matter of hours Monday night.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers were called to a reported stabbing on Newell-Hickory Grove Road in east Charlotte around 9:30 p.m. One person was found dead outside a home when officers got to the scene.

Police have not released information about the victim or suspect in the case.

A short while later, officers were called to a reported domestic incident on Ledson Court, near the interchange of Mount Holly Road and I-485, in northwest Charlotte. CMPD says officers found a victim dead from an apparent stab wound inside the home.

On Tuesday morning CMPD announced officers had arrested 53-year-old James Alexander Jackson. They say he stabbed and killed 51-year-old John Paul Cousar at that home on Ledson Court.

Detectives say nights like Monday must come to an end soon in Charlotte.

"We've got to find a way, not just as a police department, but as a community, to put an end to senseless violence," said a CMPD spokesperson. "These aren't the kinds of conversations we should be having."

Any person with information about either stabbing is encouraged to call CMPD's Crime Stoppers tip line at 704-334-1600. Witnesses may also call 704-432-TIPS to speak directly with homicide detectives.
