Homicide investigation underway in north Charlotte, police say

The incident happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning on Acorn Forest Lane.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating an overnight homicide that took place in north Charlotte.

Just after 3 a.m. early Sunday, police responded to a shooting near the 5000 block of Acorn Forest Lane near Old Statesville Road in north Charlotte.

At the scene of the shooting, officers found a person who had been shot. Medic pronounced the victim dead at the scene. That victim was later identified as 19-year-old Lawahon Dwight Hutchinson. 

The person who reported the incident to police told officials their home had been shot into multiple times, and people were home at the time of the shooting. 

The identity of the suspect is unknown at this time.
