CMPD identifies 17-year-old killed in Steele Creek shooting

CMPD also found an occupied home that had been shot into, but nobody inside that home had been hit.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 17-year-old was killed and another person was injured in a shooting in Steele Creek early Wednesday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. 

It happened along the South Carolina border, on Long Talon Way near Steele Creek Road.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the area after reports that shots had been fired. When officers arrived, they found two people who had been shot. One of the victims, identified as 17-year-old Murahnee Johnson, died at the scene. The other victim, who hasn't been identified, was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

CMPD also found an occupied home that had been shot into, but nobody inside that home had been hit.

The investigation is still active and ongoing at this time. CMPD is asking anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide unit detective.
